The Sinking Ship

Once upon a time, there was a ship built with two main levels.

The higher level was reserved for the educated and the bottom level was reserved for those deemed uneducated and ignorant. During a three-month-long trip across a great ocean, the educated wisely conserved enough water to last them the entire trip. Meanwhile, the uneducated ignorant class foolishly drank all of the water they possessed in the first few weeks of the trip. Later, the thirsty lower level travelers began to cry for help. However, the upper level travelers were indifferent to the cries coming from the lower level.

So, the lower level travelers began to dig into the bottom hull of the ship to get to water. When they reached water, it quickly gushed into the ship’s hull and the ship sank. Everyone perished. The inability of the upper level travelers to see beyond their limited judgment caused their own deaths.

Lesson: In the constantly changing reality in which we exist, can we really afford to be indifferent to others and remain stuck in our own little corners of ethnic, linguistic, and/or cultural identities?
